Islamic and Asian Empire Project

On Tuesday 29th, Mar. & Thursday 31st, Mar. we spen tthe entire class periods working on our project for the Islamic Empires. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to amke up what you missed:

1) Be sure to finish your research and collect information for each of the topics on your sheet that you got last time. See previous post for the assignment.

2) Once finished gathering data for the project please create and share the following from your Gmail Google Drive. Follow instructions on your sheet and use the template for the slide show below:

- a Google Doc for your 1 page double spaced report.
- a Google Slides presentation, please use the following template.

Islamic and Asian Empires of th 1500s - 1900s

On Tuesday 22nd, Mar. we began our next unit on the Islamic and ASian Empires of the last few centuries. If you were absnet, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Download the following instruction sheet and using your textbook and internet research complete Part 1 of the assignment. You may choose any one of the six empires listed at the top of the instruction sheet. Please have it ready for Tuesday next week when we return from break.

Review & Administrative Organization

On Wednesday 16th, Mar. we spent the day completeing some administrative tasks in order to prepare for the end of the quarter. We also spent a large amount of time reviewing for our test on Friday. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Come see me to get a grade printout, your pass back work, and make sure you ahve the notes you need to turn in.

Conditions of the Working Class & The Ideas of Socialism

On Monday 14th, Mar. we looked at the conditions of the working class and discussed the idea of socialism. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Complete the packet Conditions of the Working Class During the Industrial Revolution using your textbook. In order to complete Source 6, you will need to read the excerpt from the Communist Manifesto.

2) Then on the piece of paper from last time that you answered the question on property, you will do a freewrite based on the following prompt: (If you were not here last time or prefer, you may use a new piece of paper to do your freewrite)

What do I think about the conditions of the workers and the ideas of socialism as a response to those conditions? Do these have any relevance today? Can socialism be applied today?

Your freewrite needs to be a minimum of one page, handwritten!

Wealth and Property in the US

On Thursday 10, Mar. we continued our study of the Industrial Revolution. We actually spent almost the entire class period in a  discussion on social class, property, work and ownership. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Consider the following questions which were discussed and how you might answer them. You should write your answers down on a separate piece of paper titled Capitalism & Socialism: Introductory Discussion Questions.

- What is property?
- Why is owning property important?
- How does one gain ownership of property?
- Why do some people have more property than others?
- Why are some people workers and others management?
- How are these things reflected in our society today?

2) Watch the following video and write a response (no more than 1/2 page) on what you think about it and what questions you have that you would like more information on about the faccts given in the video.

Speeches & Industrial Revolution

On Tuesday 8th, Mar. we first began with listening to several speeches from the students in the class and then we went over the assignment from last time. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) For the speeches there is nothing to make up, but you need to turn in the following items:

- the Power of Speech packet
- rough draft
- feedback protocol sheet
- revised/final draft

2) Turn in your assignment The Industrial Revolution Chapter 19 Section1 from last time.

Intro to the Industrial Revolution

On Friday 4th. Mar. I was absent dut to my wife's surgery and you had a substitute. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Read Chapter 19 Section 1 (pages 614-621)and complete the following worksheet (which was given as notes):

2) Choose ONE of the following American Industrialists and write a 1 page report (you will need to do self research) to make up for the video you missed:

- J.P. Morgan
- John D. Rockefeller
- Cornelius Vanderbilt
- Andrew Carnegie

Napoleon Correction & Speech Revisions

On Monday 29th, Feb. we divided our class into two basic sections. First, we worked on our speeches and then we corrected and went over the Age of Napoleon worksheet. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Using your rough draft of your speech that you have already written, you should have written a revised version of that speech using the feedback you got using the revision protocol. Download another copy of the revision feedback protocol and do the same thing with a different person from before.

2) Once you have the feedback done for your revised speech, you should have these four papers:

- rough draft of speech
- feedback on the rough draft
- revised draft of the speech
- feedback on the revised draft

Be prepared to turn all of these in as part of a speech preparation packet.

3) Using the feedback you got on your revised speech, write a final draft of your speech. Practice presenting that speech and be prepared to deliver it to the class the next time you are in class.

4) Turn in the assignment on the Age of Napoleon from last time.
