Absolutism & Research Projects

On Wednesday 27th, Jan. we finished recapping Pter the Great and our notes on absolutism and Louis XIV. We then began a research project on famous people of the era and spent the remainder of the class doing research. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Read Chapter 14 Section 3 of your text and complete the notes sheet. As an alternative you can read the section and complete questions 1 - 7 of the assessment at the end.

2) Look through the following list of persons and choose one that is most interesting to you and you would like to do research on.

3) Read through the Project Instructions so you have a general idea of what you are going to be doing. And then begin step 2 and gather data on your person, you whould gather at least 1 1/2 pages of notes. THIS IS ALL YOU NEED TO DAY FOR TODAY!

QUIZ: Chapter 13 & Peter the Great

On Monday 25th, January we recapped what we learned on Chapter 13 and then took a small quiz on Chap 13. We then discussed the rise of Peter the Great of Russia and then watched a video on him. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Please copy the notes that we started last time and finished today. The notes were titles Expansion and Exploration Part 2.

2) Schedule a time to make up the quiz on Chapter 13. Preferably during MAP time, but we can also do after school.

3) The video we watched on Peter the Great is blocked on copyright grounds and will not allow me to upload. So in order to make up the video, you will need to conduct some self research on Peter the Great and write a 1 page sumamry on what you learned. Be sure to answer the following questions:

- Who was Peter the Great and what kind of man was he?
- What did he accomplish, create, and/or do in his life?
- Why is he so important to Russian history and what was his impact?

European Exploration Part 2 & The Columbian Exchange

On Wednesday 20th, Jan. we continued our look at European Exploration and focused especially on the Columbian Exchange. We also tookt ime to finish our assignment for the substitute. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Read Chap 13 Sections 1 and 3 and look fo rthe heading that are listed on the notes. You only need to read those sections. For each of those sections take five notes on things that are important and fill in your notes sheet:

2) Then watch the following video and take notes on what you learn. You can actually use this video to take notes on the notes sheet above. At any rate you should watch the video even if you used your book to take notes.

3) Finish the assignment from last time. Follow the instructions and complete the side you did not get from last time. If you were absent last time, you will need to do the entire assignment.

European Exploration

On Wednesday 13th, January we began our look at European exploration. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Turn in your assignment from last time, The Spread of Protestantism.

2) Schedule a time to make up the quiz on Chapter 12. (10 question/multiple choice)

3) Watch the following video and take 15 notes about what you learn (You can use the back side of the notes you print below since the back side is blank):

The Protestant Reformation

On Monday 11th, Jan. we discussed the importance of the Protestant Reformationa nd its connection to the ideas of the Renaissance. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Watch the following 15 min video and write down 10 facts that help answer the following questions:

- Who was Martin Luther?
- What were some of his ideas regarding religion?
- What happened as his ideas spread?

People of the Renaissance

On Thursday 7th, Jan we spent the class focusing on the people of the Renaissance. We went over our chart from last time and then focused on a video of Michelangelo. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Turn in your assignment from last time, the chart on famous people.

2) Watch the following video (you only need to watch the first 28:00 minutes) on Michelangelo and write a 1 page sumamry on what you learned. Be sure to focus on the following questions in your summary:

- What was Michelangelo's childhood, education, and family life like?
- How did he become an artist? Who helped him?
- Why is Michelangelo important? What did he accomplish and what impact did he have?

Intro to the Renaissance

On Tuesday 6th, Jan. we began our look at the Renaissance. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Read Chapter 12 Sections 1 and 2 and fill in the notes to the best of your ability. For notes you can not find, you may copy from a friend.

2) Complete the following chart by locating and identifying each of the people listed. You will find these people by reading Chapter 12 Sections 1 and 2 of your text. Most are bolded and highlighted so they are easy to find. Be sure to read the WHOLE sections so you get all the information.

3) OPTIONAL: We will be taking an extra credit quiz on Renaissance art and artists. Study the following art examples and accompanying answer key and prepare for the quiz. The answer key is in the order of the pictures. The quiz will be just the pictures of course!
