Test: Islamic Civilization & Early Europe

On Tue. 20th, Dec. & Wed. 21st, Dec. we took our test on Islamic Civilization and Early Europe. We also turned in our history booklets on Europe in the Middle Ages and our review/note packet for the unit.

If you were absent you will need to:

#1 - Turn in your history booklet project.
#2 - Turn in your review/note packet.
#3 - Plan a day to take your test. (You have until Jan. 12th, Thusrday)

Review: Islamic Civilzation and Early Europe

On Fri. 16th, Dec. & Mon. 19th, Dec. we reviewed for our test on the Islamic Civilization and Early Europe unit. We also passed back all our work from this unit and spent some time working on our history booklets from last time.

Feudalism and the Growth of European Kingdoms

On Wed. 14th, Dec. & Thurs. 15th, Dec. we discussed the development of feudalism as a government system and the rise of European kingdoms such as England, France, and the Holy Roman Empire.

If you were absent, you will need to make sure you turn in any work from last time. You will also need to do the following:

#1) Read Chapter 9 Section 2 and complete as much of the notes as possible. You may copy any blanks from a friend.

Transforming the Roman World

On Mon. 12th, Dec. & Tues. 13th, Dec. we discussed the rise of the early European kingdoms after the fall of the Roman Empire. We also discussed the impact of Germanic society and customs on the building of these kingdoms.

If you were absent, you will need to complete the following in order to make up what you missed.

#1: Read Chapter 9 Section 1 of your textbook and fill in as much of the note sheet as you can. You may copy any missing notes from a friend. Also after reading, you will need to complete the Homework: Role of the Christian Church and the Carolingian Empire.



#2: Download the assignment on Justice and Law in Society and complete it on your own.

The Culture of Islam

On Thurs. 8th, Dec. and Fri. 9th, Dec we looked at the culture of Islam and talked about the historical impact of Islam on the world. We also looked at how many Americans have a negative view of Islam and why that is.

IF you were absent, you will need to turn in your work from last time. Also you will need to download the following notes and copy what you can not find from the reading from a friend. You will need to see me about the assignment we did in class as I am not able to upload it to the computer.

READ: Chapter 6 Section 4: The Culture of Islam and fill in as much of the notes as you can.


Assignment: Was done in class and you will need the handout to answer these questions: How are modern Muslim governments different from Muslim governments of the past? How have these differences affected the way Americans view Islam?

Islamic Civilization

On Tues. 6th, Dec. and Wed. 7th, Dec. I was absent as I was ill. There was a substitute and the students watched a video on the expansion of the Islamic empire and the achievements of the Abbasid dynasty. There was also a worksheet on Islamic civilization.

If you were absent, you will need to download the worksheet and use your textbook to complete it. Also to make up for the video, you will need to write a two page report on the Abbasid dynasty and focus on its history and achievements.

The Abbasid Dynasty and the Story of Ali Cogia

On Fri. 2nd, Dec and Mon. 5th, Dec. we spent our time discussing the Abbasid dynasty and its cultural, economic, and political impact. We also looked at a cultural story about the time as a way to reflect on the values and attributes of this civilization.

If you were absent, you will need to turn in the work from last time and then download the notes, the story and the assignment that goes with the story.
