1) Download the following study guide and complete it as if it were a worksheet. However, you DO NOT need to write in complete sentences bullet point notes for each vocab and question will be enough.

The Renaissance

On Wednesday 7th, Dec. we began our look at the Renaissance. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Read Chapter 12 Sections 1 and 2 and fill in the notes to the best of your ability. For notes you can not find, you may copy from a friend.

Islamic Empire, Culture, and Civilization

On Monday 21st, Nov. we continued our study of Islamic civilization. First, we had to take a few minutes to finish our notes from last time. We then corrected our assignment and then began a new one. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

Early Islam & the Creation of an Arab Empire

On Monday 30th, Nov. we continued our look at early Islam and the beginnings of the Islamic Empires. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) We continued the video from last time and you will need to watch the following video from about the 20:00 minute mark until 35:00 minute mark. As you watch the video take notes that answer the following three questions (5 notes per questions):

Test Correction and Intro to India

On Monday 31st, Oct. I returned and we corrected the test and began our next unit on India and China. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Turn in your review packet from the unit:

2) Check Skyward for your grade on your test.

Feudalism & the Rise of European Kingdoms

On Monday 10th, Oct. we began our look at feudalism and the beginnings of the great kingdoms in Europe. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

The Germanic Peoples

On Thursday 6th, Oct. we began our next chapter by watching a documentary on the Huns and then taking notes about the Germanic Kingdoms. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Watch the following documentary and complete the assignment. You only need to watch the first 25 minutes; however, you can watch the whole thing if you want to of course.

As you watch the video please take notes on the following questions. You should be able to answer these questions and have at least 20 significant notes that help you remember.

Where did the Huns come from and what was their lifestyle?
What made the Huns such great warriors?
How did Rome react to the Huns and what did the Romans do to keep peace?
Who was Attila the Hun? How did he gain power?
What did Atilla want for the Huns?
What impact did the Huns have on Rome and Europe in general?

2) Read Chapter 9 Section 1 (the section about the Germanic tribes) and complete the following notes:

3) Once you have finished the above, take the notes you have a write a 1 page summary in your own words that answer the following questions:

IMPORTANT: Huns are NOT Germanic people! They are a separate group, but certainly had a relationship to the Germanic peoples.

- Why did the Germanic tribes invade the Roman Empire?
- How did the Huns and Germanic peoples affect and interact with Rome?

Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire & Roman Mural Activity

On Tuesday 4th, Oct. we corrected our assignment from last time and then discussed and took notes on the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. We then took a Quiz on our Roman unit by creating murals. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to amke up what you missed:

1) Turn in your assignment on Roman Culture and Society from last time.

2) Instead of notes I would like you to please read Chapter 5 Section 5 - Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire and complete the worksheet.

Test Correction & Intro to Rome

On Friday 23rd, Sept. we took time to correct our test and do pass backs for the unit we just completed. We then began our look at Rome witha  video. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up waht you missed:

1) If you were here for the test last time, please check Skyward for your grade. You may do test corrections as needed for the next two weeks after that whatever score you have is the score you have - including 0s!

2) If you were not here for the test and you were gone again today, you need to schedule a time to make up your test ASAP. You have five school days from your return to do so without penalty. You must also turn in your green notes sheets from the previous unit. You should have 5 of them.

3) Please come in and pick up all your pass back work from the previous unit. Do NOT throw away anything until you check your grades on Skyward. If you believe there is an error we need to take care of that ASAP and you will need to provide evidence.

4) Watch the following video clip. After you watch the clip take a piece of paper and choose three adjectives you would use to describe the Romans. For each adjective think of at least two specific examples that could be used (at least one for each adjective has to come from the video) to support your choice and explain why you chose those adjectives. Your total writing for this assignment should be at least 1/2 a page but no more than 1 page.

IMPORTANT: You only need to watch first 25 mins!!!

TEST: Midterm - Chaps 1,2, & 4

On Wednesday 21st, Sept. we took our midterm test. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

Intro to Greek Civilization

On Friday 9th, Sept. we began studying ancient Greece. We started by viewing a video on the possibility that some of the myths we know may have been based in actual events, places, and people. We watched the video, took notes, and discussed what we learned. We then took some time to complete a book assignment about the impact of physical geography and the early civilizations of Greece.


If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed. 

1) Turn in your completed timeline and date sheet from last time.

Creating the Timeline of the Ancient Middle East

On Wednesday 7th, Sept. we corrected our date sheet that we gathered last time and then spent the remainder of the class completing the actual creation of the timeline. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Using the worksheet from last time, go on to complete Steps 2 and 3. You should have already completed Step 1 and collected the dates  In order to move on to step 2 you will need two blank pieces of unlined paper. Then do the following:

- draw a line down the middle of each paper and on the line evenly space 15 hashmarks (you should have a total of 30 hashmarks when you have done both pieces of paper.)
- Each hashmark represents 100 years. On the first hashmark (the one on the far left) label it 3100 BCE, then label each hashmark counting down by 100. You should end with 200 BCE as your last hashmark.
- Then follow the instructions on the back of the worksheet for Steps 2 & 3.

New Civilizations & Collecting Dates for Our Timeline

On Friday 2nd, Sept. we discussed the rise of new civilizations and empires. Our main point of the day is that civilizations advances through two primary ways: innovation and cultural diffusion. Innovation simply means the creation of something new from within the culture. Cultural diffusion refers to the process by which technology and ideas spread from one culture to another and are new ideas that come from outside of the culture.


If you were absent, you will need to print out the notes. For the notes you will need to use your textbook to complete the assignment. Please Read Chapter 2 Sections 3 & 4. Please use your textbook.

Early Humans and the Neolithic Revolution

On Monday 29th, Aug. we discussed the rise of humans and the development of civilizations. The information presented was presented as a theory that is generally accepted by anthropologists and archaeologists. We discussed the development of humans and how agriculture led to the beginnings of human civilization. Students took notes on this information and then we completed an assignment identifying the six characteristics of civilization and then compared those characteristics to modern American society.

1) First, we checked out textbooks. You need to come in as quickly as possible to get your textbook.

IMPORTANT: We also have access to our textbook electronically. In order to view the textbook online you will to go to the following website www.glencoe.com/ose/

However, I have been asked to not share the code publicly, so you will need to come see me for the code. Alternately, you could email me for the code.

2) Second, we watched a small video on the Neolithic Agricultural Revolution. Please watch the small video and take at least ten notes on things you learn that are important to understand about the shift from hunting and gathering to farming. (You could do this on the note sheet you need to print out below.)
