The Culture of the Middle Ages and the Black Death & REVIEW FOR THE TEST

On Thursday 29th, Oct. we finished our look at the Middle Ages by taking some notes on the culture of the time period and the Black Death. We then spent the remainder of the class reviewing for our test. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Please turn in your questions/answers from Chapter 10 Sec 2 that we did last time.

2) Please read through Chapter 10 Secs 3 & 4 and fill in the notes. You may copy notes froma  friend; however, you MUST read the sections to get the material in context.

The Rise of Cities in the Middle Ages & Medieval Christianity

On Tuesday 27th, Oct. we discussed the rise of trade and cities int he Middle Ages. We tied in what we learned on Friday with some mor enotes. We then took time to consider the conflict that arose between religious and political powers. If you were absent, you will need to do the following:

5th Period ONLY:

1) Read Chapter 10 Sec 1 of your text and complete the following notes. You may also copy the notes froma a friend; however, you must still read the section to get the context of the materials.

2) Please read Chapter 10 Sec 2 -The first red heading only! (The Papal Monarchy) and write 6 of your own questions and answer them for that particualr section. You should pay close attention to anything in bold or that is highlighted.

6th, 7th, and 8th Periods: You MUST see Mr. Butterfield or make arrangements with him for make up!

Trading and City Building Game

On Friday 23rd, Oct. we engaged ina  game of trading and city building to introduce the importance of both to the Middle Ages in Europe. IF you were absent, you will not be able to make up the game; however, we will incorporate you into the annalysis of the game on your return. Therefore, there is no make up needed for today.

The Byzantine Empire and Crusades

On Wednesday 21st, Oct. I was out sick and there was a substitute. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1)  Watch the following video clip and take a minimum of 12 notes that you learn about the Byzantine emperor Justinian.

Feudalism & The Rise of European Kingdoms

On Monday 19th, Oct. we began our look at feudalism and the beginnings of the great kingdoms in Europe. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) read Chapter 9 Sections 1 and 2 of your textbook and complete the following notes. You may copy the notes from a friend; however, it is important that you read your text so you get the context.

2) Then using blank paper follow the instructions for creating a booklet on the information you learn about European Kingdoms in section 3 of Chapter 9.

Transforming the Roman World & Germanic Invasions

On Tuesday 13th, Oct. we turned in our murals which served as an assessment from last time. We then began our next chapter by watching a documentary on the Huns and then taking notes about the Germanic Kingdoms. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Turn in your Roman Mural from last time.

2) Watch the following documentary and complete the assignment. You only need to watch the first 25 minutes; however, you can watch the whole thing if you want to of course.

As you watch the video please take notes on the following questions. You should be able to answer these questions and have at least 20 significant notes that help you remember.

Where did the Huns come from and what was their lifestyle?
What made the Huns such great warriors?
How did Rome react to the Huns and what did the Romans do to keep peace?
Who was Attila the Hun? How did he gain power?
What did Atilla want for the Huns?
What impact did the Huns have on Rome and Europe in general?

3) Read Chapter 9 Section 1 (the section about the Germanic tribes) and complete the following notes:

Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire & QUIZ: Roman Murals

On Friday 9th, Oct. we corrected our assignment from last time and then discussed and took notes on the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. We then took a Quiz on our Roman unit by creating murals. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to amke up what you missed:

1) Turn in your assignment on Roman Culture and Society from last time.

2) Instead of notes I would like you to please read Chapter 5 Section 5 - Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire and complete the worksheet.

3) Create a mural in the Roman style by following the instructions for the alternate assessment. You will need a large piece of blank paper. You can provide this yourself or come see me to get one.

The Rise of Christianity & Roman Culture and Society

On Tuesday 6th, Oct. we graded the assignments from the last time. We then took notes on the spread of Christianity and then completed an assignment on the culture/society of the Roman Empire. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Read Chapter 5 Section 3 - Roman Culture and Society and complete the following worksheet.

From Republic to Empire

On Friday 1st, Oct. we looked at cause and effect in Rome as it transitioned from a republic to an empire. We then took notes on the rise of the Roman Empire. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:
