Introduction to Ancient India and China

On Wednesday 30th, Oct. and Thursday 31st, Oct. we began our look at the civilizations of ancient India and China. We had a class discussion, watched a small video clip and then completed a book assignment. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Check you Skyward and let me no IMMEDIATELY if there are any questions or concerns. The grade you see is your FINAL grade for first quarter.

2) On a piece of paper answer the following questions with details and honestly:

- What is happiness?
- How does one find happiness or receive more of it?
- How are others a part of our happiness, if at all?
- What determines a person's social class?
- What social class do you consider yourself, why, and is it changeable either upward or downward?

3) Watch the small video clip from youtube and write three questions that a student should be able to answer. Make sure they are questions that require a 2-3 sentence answer. Then write a 1/2 page summary of how this video is connected to the questions you answered above.

TEST: Ancient Rome

On Monday 28th, Oct. and Tuesday 29th, Oct. we took our test for the last unit. If you were absent, you will need to reschedule a time to come in and make up your test. Also, you need to turn in your substitute assignment, review crossword, and notes by Thursday this week, 31st, Oct.! Those items will go on this quarter's grade; however, the test we took today will  go on next quarter's grade.

Roman Empire Test Review and Substitute Day

On Thursday 24th, Oct. I was absent and there was a substitute. If you were absent, please do the following to make up for what you missed:

1) Check your Skyward and any missing work you can download from this blog. You will need to scroll through the posts until you find the assignment. The LAST DAY for any makeup work or late work in Monday 28th October!!

2) Please download the study guide and treat it like a worksheet. Answer the review questions and for the vocabulary just give a brief definitions.

3) Research the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, choose ONE and write a 1 page report on it. Describe its function, where it was from, why it was built, etc.

Book Reports & Presentations

On Tuesday 22nd, Oct. and Wednesday 23rd, Oct. we turned in our book reports and spent the day listening to 10 presentations from students within the class. I also passed out updated grade reports to all students. Please check these and Skyward to ensure there are no mistakes. If there are or if you have questions, please come see me.

If you were absent, you need to turn in your book report on your return! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Also, remember that MONDAY 28TH, OCTOBER 3:00 PM IS THE LAST TIME FOR ANY LATE/MAKEUP WORK OR REDOS/EXTRA CREDIT!!

Fall of the Roman Empire

On Wednesday 16th, Oct. and Monday 21st, Oct. we looked at and discussed the fall of the Roman Empire. We did the assignment and graded it in class so there is no homework! If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

The Rise of Christianity and the Roman Empire

On Monday 14th, Oct. and Tuesday 15th, Oct. we looked at the development of Christianity and its eventual spread throughout the Roman Empire. We discussed why Christians were initially rejected by the Romans and how the emperor Constantine became the first Christian emperor. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Turn in your assignment from last time, Roman Culture and Society.

2) Read Chapter 5 Section 4 - The Development of Christianity in your textbook and complete the notes to the best of your ability.

Roman Society and Culture

On Thursday 10th, Oct. and Friday 11th, Oct. we discussed the early Roman Empire and talked about the effect of the emperors on Rome. We then did a book assignment on Roman society and culture. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

The Punic Wars and From Republic to Empire

On Monday 7th, Oct. and Tuesday 8th, Oct. we talked about Rome's wars with Carthage known as the Punic Wars and then we discussed and evaluated cause and effect as Rome transitioned from a Republic to an Empire. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Turn in your assignments from last time.

2) Read pages 150-151 on the Punic Wars and fill in your notes as much as possible. If you concerns with the notes, come see me.

The Twelve Tables of Roman Law

On Thursday 3rd, Oct. and Friday 4th, Oct. I was absent and had a substitute. With the substitute you watched a video and completed an assignment on Roman law. If you are in fourth period, there was also an additional assignment to do.

If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

The Introduction to Rome

On Tuesday 1st, Oct. and Wednesday 2nd, Oct. we began our unit on ancient Rome. We watched a small video about the Romans and then completed a book assignment on the early Roman Republic and then took some notes. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

1) Watch the video below and then on a blank piece of paper create a 10 question listening log as if you were a teacher. The questions should require more than just a one word answer. You only need to watch the first 12 minutes of the video.
